Flower Power for God

Published by St. John's on

We interview volunteers from around the church about why they love St. John’s and how they’re finding belonging. Today we’re chatting with Stella Martin.

Stella and her husband, Tom, live full-time in Victor but spend some time back at their farm in Alabama. She serves as Flower Team coordinator and is inspired by all the good deeds and the loving hearts at St. John’s. She felt at home on her first visit in July of 2022. Her intent was to check out St. John’s and then go to St. Francis Episcopal Church in Alta. She has never visited St. Francis. She told Jimmy that first Sunday that she had found her church home.

The Flower Team provides altar flowers for the church on Sundays, on feast days, and when a parishioner has signed up to dedicate flowers to a loved one. The ministry continues with the team taking apart the altar flowers and delivering them to those on the parish prayer list. If you would like to donate flowers to someone in honor or remembrance, contact Pam, or use the sign-up sheet in Hansen Hall, for either flowers in the chapel or the church.

Stella says, “For me, flowers are an expression of God’s love and incredible handiwork. I am in awe of his creations.”
When not poking, foraging, or planting flowers, Stella can be found working in her two gift businesses, volunteering with the City of Victor Events Committee, or on the board of the Community Foundation. She and Tom spend time gardening, cooking, entertaining, floating the Teton, travelling, and playing with their two grown boys, five grandchildren, three dogs and five grand-dogs.
