My [Habitat] Family

Although I have worked on Habitat homes in the past, I now have my first Habitat family for which to advocate. They are a delightful family of six with four charming children all of whom are looking forward to moving into their new home this fall. This family is resilient. They make due with a variable, seasonal income and have plenty of experience with unsympathetic landlords. Together, we work to problem-solve, exploring different options that add value to their daily life. The dad is a free-lance photographer and graphic designer. Mom stays at home and homeschools the children.

I also taught a class in Neighborhood Relations, one of many classes offered to the eight families to assist in their complete understanding of homeownership. The class was a lot of fun and demonstrated to me how close they all have become, working together over the many months of preparation.

This experience has been very rewarding for me and I hope to contribute again helping another family prepare for homeownership.
