Welcome Helms Family
Join us in welcoming the Helms Family to Jackson and Travis onto the St. John's staff.
Travis Helms is a priest and poet with a deep love for exploring how creativity can draw us closer to God and one another. After serving in the Peace Corps in Madagascar, Travis attended seminary at Yale Divinity School, then got his PhD in theology and literature from the University of Cambridge. He was ordained to the priesthood in 2017; and for the last three years has been serving as the Campus Missioner to the University of Texas at Austin. In 2018, he founded LOGOS Poetry, a monthly liturgically-inflected reading series that gathers in an east Austin brewery, and online. He serves as one of the Executive Directors of EcoTheo Collective, a nonprofit that offers a variety of programs grounded in the intersection of ecology, spirituality, and art.
In addition to priesting and writing, Travis loves spending time with his wife, Gracie; their seven-month-old daughter, Helen; and their pups, Roo and Bunny.
The Helms love hiking, skiing, fishing, and live music — and cannot wait to join the huge-hearted St. John's community as love-spreading difference-makers.
We plan to bring Travis and his wife, Gracie, and their daughter, Helen to Jackson in the early summertime and hit the ground running. We’re already working hard to create the warmest of welcomes and the smoothest of landings for the Helms family.
If you would like to be a part of that welcome, please reach out to me in the office or over email. We’d happily add you to the Welcome Team.
Meet the family here in this short video!
