Reflection on the music:
"Growing up in a family who loved listening to music together, we always had our favorites. But one of my best memories, hands down, was dancing in the kitchen to Al Green with my Mom. For me, listening to Al Green was always something of a religious experience. It wasn't until I actually had the privilege of traveling with my folks to Helena, Arkansas, for the King Biscuit Blues Festival, and decided to take a detour stop at the Full Gospel Tabernacle Church in Memphis to see The Rev. Al Green himself, preach and perform, live, that I felt religion. We were the only white family in church that Sunday morning, and we were welcomed by an entirely black congregation.
There was fainting in the aisles, more hallelujahs than I could count and a congregation that was truly all heart.
It was an experience I'll never forget and forever treasure." – Liz Collins, St. John's staffer, mom, wife and lover of music
