Big Dreamers, A Family Tradition
I’ve heard stories of pillowcases moving around the country now. So far, I know they’ve gone to Oregon, California and Texas. I’ve heard of stories of pillowcases being shared in hospital rooms and the Whole Grocer, too. It seems like every day or so somebody asks me, “hey you’re that guy from St. John’s, right? What’s up with the pillowcases?” And it’s fun. I’m able to tell them, “together, we’re spending the summer dreaming big dreams. Big dreams for our church and big dreams for our own lives, too.” Other churches have reached out asking if they could “steal” our idea. I respond, “you don’t have to steal something we’re giving away. Go for it!”
I'm grateful to you for giving this exercise so much enthusiasm and attention and careful thought—for applying your way into this dreaming work we have in front of us! It’s been fun to tell and retell the stories of those folks who dreamed big dreams and got this church to the place we find ourselves today. So many big dreamers at St. John’s. Some of those were concrete. We need a hospital! We need a chapel in the park! Some of those less specific—pioneering people looking to spread a little love in a raucous mountain valley in Wyoming around the turn of the 20th century.
Well, we’re continuing the family tradition—the St. John’s family tradition—of dreaming big dreams. Keep ‘em coming, y’all. Send them to us. ([email protected]) Share them with the group on Monday nights from 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. Pray for and about them. Big dreams ahead. And, we’re used to that!
Love,
Jimmy
