Finding Belonging, Opportunity and Connection
This is a new "corner" in Revelations newsletter where we interview volunteers from around the church about what they love about St. John's and lending a helping hand. Today, we're chatting with Donaldson Miele. He's from Orange County, CA, but has been in the Valley for more than 4 years. Donaldson serves as an usher once monthly and is inspired by the work and people of St. John's.
What is an usher, you ask? Oftentimes, this is the first person seen by a church member or guest. They provide ministry to the congregation and clergy by meeting practical needs such as helping seat folks and collecting the offering. They spread love and light to all who enter the building!
My name is Donaldson Miele and I’ve been an usher at St. John’s for several years. It’s allowed me to get to know the faces and names of many in the church family. Likewise, it’s helped to anchor Sunday service as a part of my weekly schedule. It’s a great opportunity to serve and feel like I’m part of the team on Sunday mornings. Plus, my wife doesn’t have to be subjected to my singing! Whether greeting folks as they arrive or slapping a high five, I get to share a joke and some stoke with the staff and congregation. Since this is apparently devolving into a rap, I’ll re-imagine one of my favorite Beastie Boys lyrics:
"I don’t mean to brag. I don’t mean to boast. But Sunday morning I’m serving the Father, Son and Holy Ghost!"(mic drop)
