Meet Rev. John Lewis
Meet the Rev. John Lewis, who is our September chaplain at The Chapel of the Transfiguration.
John Lewis is Director of the Iona Center (iona.ssw.edu) and Lecturer in New Testament and Spirituality at Seminary of the Southwest. He oversees all the seminary’s non-degree programs, including the Iona Collaborative, a network of 31 Episcopal dioceses (including Wyoming) that use the seminary’s digitized curriculum to train people in their local dioceses for ordination, lay congregational leadership, and individual formation for discipleship. John is also Co-Director of St. Benedict’s Workshop, a nonprofit ministry he founded in 2001 to help individuals and Christian communities use Scripture to practice vocational discernment, discipleship, and decision-making in all areas of daily life. Lewis has 25 years of experience in teaching Bible, Christian formation, congregational leadership, and vocational discernment throughout the Episcopal Church and in higher education. He works closely with bi-vocational pastors and congregations in the seminary’s Thriving in Bi-Vocational Ministry and Thriving Bi-Vocational Congregations programs. Lewis’ educational background includes a Juris Doctor degree (magna cum laude, 1977) from the University of Houston Law Center; a Master of Divinity degree (with honors, 1997) from Virginia Theological Seminary; and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in New Testament (2004) from the University of Oxford.
