New Year's Resolve
Secretly, I love the New Year’s reset. I say secretly because I’m not unaware of the failure rate for New Year’s resolutions. In fact, I’ve pretty regularly failed at maintaining my resolve. No matter. I still love the fresh start.
As people of faith, we can have a fresh start whenever we want, but it’s nice when it coincides with the calendar. What exactly is it that we are starting over, though? Here’s what I think.
You’ve heard me say before that I believe, “we’re children, chosen and marked by God’s love, the delight of God’s life.”
Maybe you’ve heard it more than once. Maybe you’ve heard it more than you’d like! That line comes from a particular translation from the story of Jesus’ baptism. And, I love it. I love it, love it, love it.
I feel like we get to start THAT over. We get to start over really living into this reality that we’re God’s children, chosen and marked by God’s love, the delight of God’s life. Be it resolved, 2018, I’m going to live into what I am—a child, chosen and marked by God’s love, the delight of God’s life.
I’m sure I won’t be completely successful there. No matter. I’m not looking for success. I’m just looking for the experience itself. Would you join me in this resolve?
Love, Jimmy
