Tampon Team Triumphs
The goal of Period Project is to ensure that women or girls never miss school, work or any aspect of life due to the lack of feminine hygiene products in Teton County and neighboring communities. We are working for the removal of the luxury tax on period products in the state of Wyoming. We are educating on this vital issue and hope to expand and support the initiative in other countries. Right here in Teton County, the Period Project continues to work to ensure that period products are free. St. John’s Church, St. John’s Health Foundation and the Jackson Cupboard have partnered to address this local need.
The Period Project is making products available through to local organizations thanks to volunteer deliveries. The project recently started stocking supplies at the Teton Parks & Rec Center. Feminine products are still available at Smith’s and at Jackson Whole Grocer.
To date, the Tampon Team sent 1,000 tampons and 1,152 pads and St. John’s sent 972 diapers and 1,872 wipes to EACH of the Northern Arapaho tribe and the Eastern Shoshone tribe. Our suppliers have limited the number of products we can order at once so we will continue to order as we are allowed.
Brenden Harjo from Ethete, WY shared with us,
"As a member of the Arapaho Tribe I would like to send you and the St. John's Church of Jackson a very appreciative ‘Thank You’."
Pam Woodson also spoke with David Meyers, the contact person for the Eastern Shoshone Tribe, and he also sent his thanks and appreciation.
Did you know? Menstrual products were included in the COVID legislation! You can now use HSA/FSA funds to pay for period products. This is the first time that the government has recognized what women and girls already know: these are essential products.
The Period Project continues to raise the profile of this point. Want to help?
- Please submit a public comment! The County and Town begin their budget process. Your comments can help to make these products available for free in all public buildings.
- Email your comments to: [email protected] and [email protected]
Here's a sample of what you could modify and submit: Every woman and girl knows that period products are essential. Fortunately, the government has recognized that, too, in its latest legislation and made it so health savings accounts can be used to purchase period products. As elected officials, you have the ability to provide these products in public buildings throughout the Town and County. I encourage you to ensure that period products are freely available--in places like the Rec Center and the Library as well as Town and County offices--just like other essential hygiene items like soap and toilet paper.
Sincerely,
Name and Town
