The Good Work We've Done
As we reflect on the year in our rear view mirror we have every reason to be proud of all the good work we’ve done here at St. John’s. The Spirit moved among us and through us, as we did our best to embody Christ’s real, tangible love in the world. We’ve spread love in our community and beyond in a myriad of ways, some very public and visible, some very quietly, known only to a few.
2019! It’s a new year, still just a baby, full of promise and hope. I have no doubt that we will nurture one another, through worship and outreach, and make this year St. John’s best year yet, and we’ll do it with humility and grace.
As a result of our dreaming together last year we identified several core values that our church holds. One that is near to my heart is, “St. John’s provides tangible opportunities to form spiritual lives in the sacred place we call home.” The critical success factor, the way we can know that our actions are matching up to our values is that we “develop and implement a holistic formation program”. “Formation” is often equated with “education,” but it can and should be much more. Our minds are educated, but our lives can be formed through study and reflection.
Come join Christie Laughery and me this February and early March as we facilitate four sessions of a class we’re calling “Opening the Prayer Book.” What’s in there, anyway? And how can it help to form our lives? You might be surprised on both counts. Stay tuned for details.
And rock on, people of St. John’s. You are awesome.
Peace, Brian
