The Rev. Frank Johnson
(The Rev.) Franklin O. Johnson passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 17, 2019. He is survived by his step-daughter, Elizabeth Turner, grandchildren, and his loving wife, Sally.
Frank served as rector of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jackson, WY, nearly 19 years, between November 1981 - September 2000. From day one, Frank developed a fascination for the history of the church, and wrote the only historical account published to date.
Frank said, “My reward was in the research and the writing. I hope yours will be in the reading!”
The memorial service is Friday, October 25 at 4:30 p.m. The family requests no visitors at this time.
Frank's final service as rector of St. John’s took place at the Chapel of the Transfiguration on September 3, 2000. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 persons were present. During a group laying-on-of-hands, the following prayer was offered – one that would become providential in their lives for years to come:
We lay our hands upon you, our beloved friends, Sally and Frank, beseeching our Heavenly Father to grant you wisdom, strength, courage and discernment in the days until you return to this Valley, praying that the Holy Spirit will guide you safely to the place where you will continue your ministry of love and service to God, His Son Jesus Christ, and to His people. May you depart from this Chapel in peace, knowing that you have given your best to each of us in the 19 years you have ministered here. Be strengthened in body, mind and spirit as you go forth to face new challenges and opportunities. Be comforted by the love we have for you and may the peace of the Lord, the love of His Son, Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit be with you both now and for ever more. Amen.
