Welcome Home, Habitat Families!
Habitat for Humanity of the Greater Teton Area recently dedicated the first eight homes at The Grove, Phase III project. This marks the completion of the first of three stages, which will add 24 affordable homes to Habitat's portfolio by 2021. On a beautiful fall evening, October 18, over 350 members of the Jackson area community gathered for a heartwarming celebration of this milestone accomplishment.
"This project has challenged Teton Habitat to grow in every way possible and the outpouring of support from our community has been truly remarkable,” said Paul Schmidt, Teton Habitat's Development Officer. "To see Habitat's position in the community elevated through this important contribution to affordable housing makes us all feel a sense of joy and optimism for our future."
The new homes glowed as the sun set on volunteers, donors, builders, staff, and elected officials. They had gathered to celebrate the work of over 1,200 supporters who brought this phase of The Grove III to fruition. Lead build partners St. John's Episcopal Church, Wells Fargo and other generous contributors took to the stage, and each of the eight families received a key to their new home.
As the ceremony ended, the Reverends Jimmy Bartz and Brian Nystrom blessed the homes amongst tears, smiles and hugs. The sun dropped behind High School Butte and the crowd thinned out, but then excitement built while moving trucks arrived as children, dogs, and proud new homeowners moved in.
The story will continue for the next two years as our community adds 16 more Habitat Homeowner families to our rich and loving fabric. We hope you will join us in welcoming home these families.
